Looking back at Mobile World Congress 2013

Wow, what a fantastic Mobile World Congress we had this year! Thank you to everyone who came to visit us at the stand or attended our cocktail event on Wednesday evening. We were so excited to show off our new Engage tool for the first time and it’s clear there’s never been more buzz and excitement around mobile marketing and engagement than at this year’s event.

While conversations with European mobile marketers were aplenty, we also noticed a much larger presence from Brazil and East Asia this year. In Brazil there are more mobile phones than there are people, as well as the biggest app market in Latin America, meaning the opportunity for mobile marketing is rapidly growing. Currently, a lot of the population are on a pre-paid tariff, meaning that our SMS marketing tool was of particular interest, but with preparations around 4G in Brazil, as well as very competitive pricing for monthly internet inclusive plans, marketers were also keen to hear about mBlox Engage as they move towards the next step in mobile engagement.

I think anyone who attended MWC this year, no matter what corner of the world they are from,  will agree that the new venue was fantastic: easy to navigate and full of energy. Announcements such as dual screen phones, Volvo’s in-car app, smart watches and a variety of new ‘fablets’ – a cross between a mobile and a tablet – also really grabbed my attention. It’s clear to see that the ways a brand can engage with a consumer are now almost limitless.
